PEDIATRIC OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

I work with kids, families, and adults for occupational therapy and family-centered coaching in the Petoskey area.

Through Thriving Littles, we support participation and wellness through daily “occupations”: play, peer relationships, family relationships, sleep, mealtimes, bathroom routines, and more.

Families often seek support for challenges such as meltdowns, confusing or intense behavior, anxiety or low mood, attention vulnerabilities, sleep struggles, transitions, dressing, mealtime difficulties, or navigating significant life changes.

Sessions are play-based yet structured to achieve key individualized goals, focusing on Interaction, Activities, and Environment to help children - and their families - live life to the fullest.

During the initial evaluation, we assess areas such as primitive reflexes, oculomotor and visual processing, fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, postural instincts, all of which influence emotional or sensory regulation - tailored specifically to your child’s unique needs.

All sessions are strengths-based, celebrating your child’s gifts while prioritizing connection, play, and joy as catalysts for growth and lasting change.

We begin with 1–2 evaluation sessions (55-85 minutes each depending on the child), followed by a parent-only meeting to review history, observations, and recommendations for session frequency, structure, and duration.

Parents are encouraged to book regular parent-only sessions to support understanding of the process, ensure carryover at home, and focus on the essential elements for lasting change - nourishment from the inside out.

ADULT OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Some adults seek occupational therapy to support neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, or feeling “stuck” or misaligned with who they want to be. Others are navigating stress responses, triggers, or challenging life seasons. Some may be facing a transition or making decisions and want to approach them from a place of security rather than stress.

I have ten years of experience guiding adults to navigate triggers, heal through coregulation, and understand the nervous system in ways that support sustainable well-being.

Extensive work with adults and families led me to specialize in parent support - helping adults understand themselves and enhance connection with children from infancy into adulthood. This work restores the joy you deserve while navigating the uncertainty and unpredictability that kids can inevitably bring.

My hope is to support you in living a life aligned with your unique values, rather than reacting from past patterns. I believe this work is the greatest gift we can offer our loved ones and our communities.

INSURANCE INFORMATION

Thriving Littles and Thriving Beings are out-of-network with all insurance providers.

A detailed receipt of all payments and services - called a superbill - may be emailed to you monthly by request, and typically this requires a diagnosis code from your physician. You may submit this superbill to your insurance company to request reimbursement. Once submitted, your insurer will determine if and how your benefits apply.

As an out-of-network provider, we do not communicate directly with insurance companies. This policy allows us to protect your privacy and focus our time and energy on providing personalized care. Communicate directly with your insurer for any questions or reimbursement needs.

We encourage you to contact your insurance company to learn about your out-of-network occupational therapy benefits. You can do this by calling the number on the back of your insurance card.

You may also ask your insurance representative which procedure codes (CPT codes) correspond with your diagnosis code. Common OT codes include:

  • 97530 – Therapeutic activities

  • 97535 – Home management / IADL training

  • 97533 – Sensory integrative techniques

  • 97165 / 97166 / 97167 / 97168 – Occupational therapy evaluation or re-evaluation

  • 90837 – Psychotherapy / behavioral health

Please note that if you choose to submit claims to your insurance company, they may require certain treatment and confidential information to be shared for reimbursement purposes.

Most insurance plans also require a referral or prescription from your pediatrician for occupational therapy evaluation and treatment before your first session. It is your responsibility to request this referral with relevant diagnosis code/s and provide it to us by bringing it to your first session or emailing it to team@thrivinglittles.com.

Determine and communicate what documentation is needed to Thriving Littles: e.g. evaluation with diagnosis (as documented by physician), plan of care, treatment goals, frequency, and progress notes. Maintaining necessary documentation to obtain insurance reimbursement is the client’s responsibility.

Sample questions families have had success with asking their insurance provider:

  • Does my plan cover OT (outpatient) for children? Is it in-network only or is out-of-network reimbursement allowed?

  • Do I need a physician referral/prescription to get OT reimbursed?

  • What diagnosis codes are covered? Is there a policy about sensory integration/OT?

  • What CPT codes are covered?

  • What is the reimbursement amount out-of-network? Are there limits on number of sessions?

  • Communicate what documentation is needed to Thriving Littles: e.g. evaluation with diagnosis (as documented by physician), plan of care, treatment goals, frequency, and progress notes
